BO YOUNG PARK ("we", "us", or "our") operates the English Vocabulary Book application (the "App"). We respect your privacy and are committed to clearly explaining how information is handled when you use the App.
This Privacy Policy explains what information the App processes, how it is used, how third-party services may process information, and the privacy choices available to you.
1. Information We Collect
The App does not require users to create an account or log in. We do not collect users' names, nicknames, email addresses, phone numbers, passwords, or other registration information.
Vocabulary books, words, learning progress, and related learning information created in the App are primarily stored locally within the App on the user's device.
We do not operate our own server or database for storing users' vocabulary books, learning progress, or other learning data.
Vocabulary Books and Learning Data
Users can enter words and create their own vocabulary books. When a word is entered, the App may use AI to automatically retrieve and enter information such as the meaning of the word in the language selected by the user.
The App manages learning progress separately for each vocabulary book. Words that the user has learned can be marked as known words, while words that have not yet been learned can be distinguished accordingly.
The number of known words is reflected in the learning progress, and users can view the progress rate of each vocabulary book using graphs.
The App does not maintain a separate history of quiz results. When a user learns a word, the word is marked as known and the corresponding learning progress is updated.
2. AI Processing for Word Information
The App may use AI features to automatically provide information such as word meanings based on words entered by the user.
The method used to process AI requests may vary depending on the AI feature provided by the App and the user's usage conditions.
Only information reasonably necessary to provide the relevant AI feature may be transmitted to an AI service.
3. AI Conversation Feature
The App provides an AI conversation feature designed to help users practice foreign languages through conversations with AI. Users can communicate with the AI using voice.
Free Users
Free users are provided with AI functionality using Apple Foundation Models.
Paid Subscribers
Users with an active paid subscription are provided with AI conversation functionality using the OpenAI API.
When the OpenAI API is used, information necessary to process the AI conversation may be transmitted to OpenAI's services.
For voice conversations, the user's spoken voice is processed using Apple's speech recognition (Speech-to-Text) functionality and converted into text.
When OpenAI API processing is used, only the converted text may be transmitted to OpenAI as necessary to provide the AI conversation service.
The App does not store the user's original voice recordings. Voice data is used temporarily for speech recognition and is deleted after the speech recognition process is completed.
The content of AI conversations is not stored within the App or externally by the App. AI conversations are therefore generally processed as temporary, non-persistent conversations.
4. Microphone and Speech Recognition Permissions
The AI voice conversation feature requires access to the device's microphone and speech recognition functionality.
If microphone or speech recognition permission is denied, the voice conversation feature may not be available.
These permissions are controlled through Apple's permission system. Users can change these permissions through their device settings.
The App does not provide a feature for saving or replaying the user's spoken voice as a recording file.
5. Text-to-Speech (TTS)
The App uses Apple's Text-to-Speech (TTS) functionality to provide spoken responses from the AI.
AI responses are presented as text on the screen while also being played as speech.
6. Vocabulary Book Sharing and Export
The App allows users to share vocabulary books with other users.
Vocabulary book sharing uses Apple's AirDrop and the iOS sharing functionality.
To receive a vocabulary book through AirDrop, the receiving device must have the App installed.
PDF Export
The App provides a feature for exporting vocabulary lists as PDF files. Users can use the iOS sharing functionality to share exported PDF files with other applications or services.
If a user voluntarily shares or exports data to another application or service, the privacy policy of the receiving application or service applies to that data.
7. Advertising and Third-Party Services
The App currently does not display advertisements. Google AdMob and other advertising services previously used in development are not currently used by the App.
The App may request permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework. However, because the App currently does not serve advertisements, this permission is not currently used for delivering advertising to users.
8. Analytics and Statistics Services
The App does not use Firebase, Google Analytics, Crashlytics, or other third-party analytics services.
We do not operate our own analytics server or database to analyze users' behavior or usage patterns.
9. Accounts and Personal Identifiers
The App does not require registration or login.
We do not collect the following information as user registration information:
- Name
- Nickname
- Email address
- Phone number
- Password
- User account ID
The App does not use a user account system to manage access to the service.
10. In-App Purchases and Subscriptions
Certain features of the App, including the AI conversation feature, are provided through a paid subscription.
The subscription price and included features are based on the latest information displayed on the App Store.
All payments for subscriptions are processed through Apple's App Store In-App Purchase system.
We do not directly collect or store credit card numbers, bank account information, or other payment information.
Subscription purchases, cancellations, refunds, and related billing procedures are handled through Apple's App Store system and are subject to Apple's applicable policies.
11. Data Storage and Retention
Vocabulary books, words, learning progress, and related learning data are primarily stored locally within the App on the user's device.
We do not operate our own cloud server or database for storing this learning data.
AI conversation content is not stored within the App or externally by the App.
If a user exports or shares a vocabulary book or PDF with another application or service, the storage and retention of that data are governed by the policies of the receiving application or service.
12. Data Deletion
Because the App does not use user accounts and we do not store users' learning data on our own servers, there is no separate server-side account deletion procedure.
Users can manage and delete vocabulary books and words using the features provided within the App.
If the App is deleted from the device, data stored within the App is removed according to Apple's iOS behavior and the user's device settings.
13. Internet Connection
An internet connection is required to use the App's AI-related features.
In particular, the AI conversation feature using the OpenAI API requires an internet connection to communicate with OpenAI's services.
The App is designed to require an internet connection regardless of whether the user is subscribed or not. Accordingly, an internet connection may also be required when using AI functionality based on Apple Foundation Models, depending on the App's current implementation and operating environment.
14. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended to collect personal information from children.
We do not knowingly collect children's personal information through a user account system or our own servers.

15. Information Sharing
We do not sell users' personal information.
We do not operate our own server or database for storing users' learning data.
However, the App uses third-party services, including services provided by Apple and OpenAI, to provide certain App features.
These third-party service providers may process information necessary to provide their respective services. Their processing of information is subject to their own privacy policies and applicable laws.

17. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect information that is directly under our control.
Because learning data is primarily stored within the App on the user's device, users are encouraged to maintain appropriate security on their devices, including using a passcode, Face ID, Touch ID, or other security features provided by Apple.
18. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the App, third-party services, applicable laws, or our privacy practices.
When changes are made, the Effective Date shown at the beginning of this Privacy Policy will be updated.
If significant changes are made, we may provide additional notice where appropriate.
